Pallet Truck FAQ

Answers to common questions about manual pallet trucks, capacity, fork sizes, wheels, pallet compatibility, and maintenance.

Questions and answers

What is a pallet truck used for?

A pallet truck is used to move palletised goods over short distances at floor level, usually inside warehouses, stores, loading areas, and production spaces.

How do I choose pallet truck capacity?

Choose a capacity above the heaviest load you expect to move. Common manual pallet trucks are often rated around 2,000 to 3,000 kg, but the right choice depends on load weight, usage frequency, and floor condition.

Why does fork size matter?

Fork length and width must suit the pallet size and load. Wrong fork size can make the pallet unstable, difficult to enter, or unsafe to move.

Which pallet truck wheels are better?

Nylon wheels are durable and roll easily on smooth floors. Polyurethane wheels are quieter and more floor-friendly. Rubber wheels can improve grip but may roll with more resistance.

Can pallet trucks be used on ramps?

Manual pallet trucks are not ideal for steep ramps or uncontrolled slopes. If ramps are common, braking, powered movement, or alternative handling equipment may be safer.

When should I replace a pallet truck?

Replace or repair it when forks are bent, wheels are badly worn, the hydraulic pump leaks or drops, steering is poor, or the truck becomes unsafe under load.
