Warehouse Racking FAQ
Answers to common questions about pallet racking, boltless shelving, load capacity, inspections, aisle planning, and storage system selection.
Questions and answers
What is the difference between pallet racking and boltless shelving?
Pallet racking stores palletised goods and is accessed by forklifts or reach trucks. Boltless shelving is for hand-loaded cartons, parts, tools, and smaller items.
How do I know what racking capacity I need?
You need pallet weight, pallet size, beam level arrangement, number of pallets per level, and handling equipment details before confirming racking capacity.
Why are load signs important?
Load signs tell users the safe working load and rack configuration. Missing or unclear signs increase the risk of overloading or misuse.
How often should racking be inspected?
Basic visual checks should be routine, especially after impact. A deeper inspection is recommended after layout changes, heavy load changes, visible damage, or repeated equipment contact.
What aisle width is needed for pallet racking?
Aisle width depends on the forklift, reach truck, pallet size, turning space, and lift height. Equipment choice and racking layout should be planned together.
Can damaged rack parts still be used?
If uprights, beams, bracing, or anchors are damaged, the affected area should be reviewed before continued use. Do not casually bend, weld, or modify damaged components.
